Dear MRA Members...

This morning I discovered that my vehicle had been broken into and all of our registration equipment has been stolen. This includes the club's laser printer, laptop, and transponders.

As you know the transponders are worth a considerable amount of money, and each of the 34 are uniquely identifiable. Please keep your eyes and ears open for people selling transponders. I doubt the thief even knows what he has.

Any help would be greatly appreciate. If you have any leads please contact me, our the South Salt Lake Police Dept. Case number:09G003966

Laser Printer:
Laptop: Dell Vostro 1500 (Service#: HQJ6VF1)
Dell Multi-Function Laser Printer 1125 (Service#: 5JZP7C1)

Damn Warren, that sucks. Sad Make sure you hit up car racing boards too if you aren't already, who knows where they'll end up. With any luck the asshole will get pulled over for a broken taillight and be spotted with all this stuff in their back seat.

I will post this up on some SCCA regional boards in the next couple of days.

However, a better approach may be for you to reach out to the powers that be at some popular race (moto and auto) organizations across the States. Chances are, these scum will sell these individually on eBay or something over a long period of time, and if they are smart, they will probably split the bounty up into multiple distribution channels and will do so very slowly (after all, they can make $300 per item, so don't need to sell all at once, because the total is probably far more profit than they hoped for). And ebay sellers (and similar) typically don't list the actual transponder number, so if they sell slowly, it will be difficult to identify the pattern of actual sales.

But if you can convince a bunch of race organizations to check any new transponder registrations against your list, you should see at least a couple of these trickle in relatively soon. After all, racers don't get these puppies so that they can sit on a shelf. These racers will almost certainly be innocent purchasers, but they could possibly lead you to the sellers. That bit might be important to add to your communications with any race organizations so that they don't get the feeling that you're out to get their members for innocently purchasing stolen stuff (which would have a chilling effect on any reports to you).

This truly sucks, man, but unless they dump all the transponders, there is actually a decent chance of getting to the bottom of this. They stole something that, in order to work, has to be absolutely identifiable. And it can only be used in the larger racing fraternity, which doesn't countenance this kind of behavior because every racer of every kind either has had valuable stuff stolen or is paranoid about it happening.

Good luck. And keep us posted.
