    MRA Rulebook rule change proposals for 2025 CLASS CHANGES

    MRA Rulebook rule change proposals for 2025
    CLASS CHANGES AND THEREFORE ITINERARY CHANGES

    Proposals/suggestions for the 2025 Rulebook are now open 8/11/24 and will be accepted until 11:59PM Wednesday September 11th (rule change proposals will not be accepted after 23:59hrs on September 11th).

    Written rule change proposals can be submitted via email to Dennis Stowers, or any rider representative, or Dustin- VP Rules and Tech. The preferred method would be for racers to submit rule change proposals via the rule changes for 2025 thread under the Rules and Tech category on the MRA forums here (http://forums.mra-racing.org/showthr...-CLASS-CHANGES
    ).

    The rule change meeting will possibly take place on October 12th, from 10AM until 2PM. October 26th is a likely date. *The date, time, and location to be determined.

    The rule change meeting is open to all members and will be held to discuss the proposed 2024 rule changes. The members attending this meeting will be encouraged to give input on the changes that will be presented to the MRA board for approval. Finalized rule changes for the 2025 season should be firmed up by the end of the year.

    When making your suggestion, be sure to cite the existing rule and what changes you are suggesting. If it is a new rule, please use the exact wording you would like to appear at the rule change meeting and possibly the rulebook.

    If you want to further discuss your rule change proposal, you may also start a separate thread in the Rules and Tech category on the forum.

    There is a second thread following all of these same guidelines. It's for class changes and therefore related itinerary changes.

    I want to make a race day schedule proposal. I propose that the second "A group" practice on Saturday morning be changed to "ROR Q1". This will be the same 15 minute session, however, the times set will be valid for grid positions in the Sunday ROR race. On Sunday, the historical ROR qualifying session would then be relabeled as "ROR Q2". Both Q1 and Q2 times set would be valid. This change is intended to provide additional qualifying opportunities for all ROR participants. This change will mitigate the consequences of an unexpected mechanical situation, as well as not being able to set a time due to a congested track. It also adds a bit more strategy into the ROR qualifying process.

    Personl experience:
    I have had the experience of being on a congested track, where each of my "flying laps" were hindered by back markers, or others in front of me being on their cool down lap and off pace. I have also had the experience of crashing in the first A group practice on Sunday, leaving me to scramble trying to get the bike fixed before the only valid qualifying session.

    I attended the Legion SBK series where there were multiple qualifying opportunities.It was a very positive experience. It took a little pressure off knowing you could post a time, see what others in your class had posted, and then strategize for the next day on what you wanted/needed to do.

    Championship Idea / Suggestion

    Team championship
    Suggestions:
    - Possibly clubman style,
    - Based on overall points
    - Base on podiums (Most 1st places, ties go to second places, then third places)
    - Based on each team members best finish that round
    - Either
    - Flexibility in team size,
    - Taking the scoring from the top x members of the round
    - Average score of all members each round (Some minimum number of member)
    - Each member can drop their worst round (allowing for potential to miss a round)

    Reason:
    This might encourage participation by those on the fence. Similar to having a work out buddy, if you have a team you are chasing points with you may be more inclined to make it to a round as to not let down the team.

    Delete Race classes MVGTU and MVGTO.

    Reason:
    The structure of these classes is designed to provide those with older machinery the chance to compete without being disadvantaged by the progress and engineering advances present in more modern machinery. However times have caught up, and the model year of bikes now eligible for Modern Vintage classes are still competitive at the front of the field in most other classes, making the class redundant.
    The GTO Class has virtually no entries that are true GTO bikes, and has been dominated this season by 600s anyway.

    Proposal:
    Delete the Clubman Championship.

    Reason:
    The clubman championship is an empty trophy opportunity where it is entirely possible for people finishing in the top 5 to go an entire season without ever being on the track at the same time as other top finishers, let alone ever racing directly against them.
    The sponsorship cost difference between this class, and a sprint class is minimal, and it should not be difficult to transition interested sponsors into an actual competitive racing class. The Clubman championship is a sideshow that encourages quantity over quality of racing, and we should focus our efforts on actual race classes pitting racers against one another for podium finishes.

    Proposal:
    Combine all 350 and 500 classes (includind SS and SB) into a single class "500SB"

    Reason:
    these classes are among the lowest attended classes, and tend to be composed of the same 2-3 racers each round. These classes currently do not have much popularity - two of these classes have had a total of 4 entries this season, to the 5 plaques available for the class. In the other two classes, currently there are people who have raced a single round this season who are already placed in the top 5. (500SS)

    Combining all of these into one class would provide the opportunity for a fuller grid and more exciting racing with higher stakes, and would reduce the burden we currently have with overall race day scheduling where some races take up a large portion of the race day for, at times, only one or two bikes.

    Those who enter this class are still eligible for other classes if they want additional race / track time even though they may not be competitive in those races. This proposal if accepted could be reviewed in future if we experience an influx of riders wishing to compete on 350-500 machinery.

    Proposal:
    Delete Formula Colorado Class

    Reason:
    Formula Colorado lass is poorly attended, and consumes valuable schedule time for minimal entries. This class has had a total of 3 entries, not even enough to cover the 5 plaques available for top 5 finishers, demonstrating that it is a redundant class. It serves only as an "extra class" for virtually all entrants, none of whom appear to treat Formula Colorado as their primary focus for the season.

    A multitude of comprehensive options to secure financial prosperity are being evaluated by the BoD. These options include the possibility of major changes to pricing, classes, and itineraries/schedules. The best option proposals will be reviewed and presented in summary form at the Rule Change Meeting to maintain transparency with membership and consider the feedback collected. This thread may be updated with more details as we work diligently to formulate them.
