MRA Drug and Intoxicant Policy (including marijuana)

The use of intoxicants or drugs of any nature (to include marijuana) that could affect the mental or physical abilities of any participant from his/her normal capabilities when in good mental and physical health are strictly prohibited. Failure to comply will result in punitive action up to a $500 fine and a permanent suspension. All Federally illegal drugs (to include marijuana) are prohibited from being used or possessed at an MRA event at any time.

    As a general guideline:

First Offense - Suspended for remainder of the weekend, including forfeiture of points, and the following weekend and a $100 fine.

Second Offense - Suspended for remainder of the weekend, including forfeiture of points, and 2 additional weekends and $250 fine.

Third Offense - Suspended indefinitely. Member will have the opportunity to apply for reinstatement after a one-year suspension and the payment of a $500 fine.

    * The board ultimately reserves the right to amend these violations based upon any aggravating or mitigating circumstances (the track is hot, endangering other riders, endangering ones self, etc……)

All racers may be subject to drug testing. This will be done using the prevailing and established federally recognized drug testing procedures and protocols. Failure to submit to testing procedures, or failure to pass the tests, will result in punitive action up to a $500 fine and one-year suspension.

Each rider is responsible for the behavior and action of any personnel, either family or crew, who is attached to his/her racing effort. Any punitive actions required for crew behavior will be levied against the rider.

Careful we might loose racers that have won #1 plates and have never had any incidents or even have let on a whiff of any of their business to anyone looking for people who fit in the category above, funny because some that could be banned from events run very sub 1:50 HPR full track lap times

No we aren't doing breathalyzers, but if you are impaired and get on the race track that will be dealt with accordingly. Nothing has changed, the rules haven't changed. The club is just letting everyone know what the policy is and what the repercussions are. We have to stay in line with CAMAs policy, the tracks policy, our insurance etc.....We are here to race.

Yes, you can have a drink when the day is over.

Hey gang, there is nothing new about the MRA's Drug and Intoxicant Policy. It's been in the rule book since the beginning(See Section 9 - Racer Conduct). With the legalization of marijuana in Colorado, we felt the need to bring it to everyone's attention what the MRA's, and the track's, policies are and outline what the consequences are so there are no surprises.

Ryan, if the members are abiding by the rules, there shouldn't be a need for this. The MRA will not knowingly allow anyone on the track that is under the influence of alcohol.

Aaron- the content of the rulebook is not selective. It applies to everyone the same. And as I mentioned above, this policy is nothing new. If a #1 plate holder is caught possessing or using federally illegal drugs, including marijuana, they will face the consequences just like any other member will.

Although alcohol is an intoxicant, it's not illegal and is allowed once the track is cold at the end of the race day just like it's always been.

There will not be "party police" patrolling the paddock. However, if we do you see you using or in possession of a federally illegal drug, or consuming alcohol while the track is hot, we will enforce the rules.

And to answer your question, I am the sheriff.

mary jane stays in your system for 2- 3 months via pee tests... how are you going to "test" racers who smoke pot or have medical reason for using the "plant" ( it is legal in this state BTW) ... literally half the club would fail the pee tests ... unless you figure out how the popos are going to do d.u.i.d. testing ... there is no way for you to test a rider for mj . it just in your system for too long to regulate

Just a thought, but as long as you aren't smoking up at the track, I doubt anyone will give two shits about it.

State-legal or not, the club and the track have every *legal* right to tell you to leave it at home. It's really not that complex.

Also have in mind that even with you doing whatever you want to do, remember that there are prospect racers and also kids that look up to the riders in the line up, just be prudent as there's times and places for everything.

The club has always had rules, just follow them and don't be an idiot. Losing a #1 plate rider or a rider that can do sub 1:50's at HPR is irrelevant. We sacrifice many, many, things to race so if you can't sacrifice 3 freaking days of "partying" to do something you love (that is very dangerous), then find something else to do with your time and money. If half of the people that bitch about all this crap would focus their effort on riding instead of how to bend rules in their favor they might actually be better racers.

There hasn't been an issue before, so there shouldn't be an issue in the future no matter how many laws change. So people who race motorcycles will still be able to partake in concerts at red-rocks too. Only beating dead horses hear, nobody is racing drunk or on medication directly..

pretty sure iv won some races and set a few lap records in my day ... this isn't ama or gp .. we race for a $2 plastic trophy . 90% of the people out here just want to get out have fun with friends and ride motorcycles .... im pretty sure most people would rather someone smoke a bowl and pass out at 830 then stay up all night drinking booze , ( head planting into the baby paly area, hanging motorcycles from ceilings , putting poto pottys in pit slots, crashin pitbikes , playing loud music ) waking up with a hangover , throwing up in there helmet and going on track, even after a small rest ... gimi a break .... hate to break it to the sheep but smoking pot is faaaar less abrasive to the body and mind then fuckin liquor ... do some research ( people die from booze everyday , nobody dies smoking a plant ) seriously .

.. and yes I agree . there hasn't been a problem ever and shouldn't be EVER.... just sayin. little bit ridiculous

We're all here to have a good time and the ways in which you choose to do so are your own, but with the times also comes forth a reminder that each individual needs to be responsible for his or her own decisions and with their due diligence refrain from doing anything that may jeopardize the sport we all love regardless of what that thing maybe.

God forbid that something ever happens due to a poor choice by one of our members and it end the MRA as we know it, that so many people have worked so hard to attain and or that choice cause even more rules to be imposed. Could you image what it would be like if we we're requiring by our insurance or the race tracks to perform breathalyzers and blood test at the beginning of the race day before we were allowed to participate?

Somethings are worth the risk, the MRA is not one of them.
