    2003 Honda CRF450 Supermoto - SOLD

2003 Honda CRF450 purchased new (from our very own Tracy Schram at Sun Honda)

Aftermarket small offset triples, new bars, suspension completely redone (multiple times actually to get it right), ported head with 1+mm bigger valves, oversized rotors, 17" wheels with Pirelli Supercorsa race tires, XT lap timer mounted, and a bunch of other stuff I am forgetting.

Left front fork seal is weaping so it both should be replaced with fresh oil, but other than that, she is ready to go. Runs great, really reliable, as fast as the YZ450s with more torque, and surprisingly fun at all of the MRA tracks and will give big bikes a good run in the tight stuff.

    $3000 or best offer.

    Interesting trades considered.

Gearing worked at IMI and at Pueblo. No idea what the rear is but I could find out. The front is (I think) a 15, or whatever the biggest one you can run without cutting the cases. Bartman could tell us which one that is...

The 2006+ (I believe?) heads used the larger valves but are a direct bolt on. So instead of redoing the original head, I bought an entire new head with a "Level 1" port. It is a mild prot that really just opens it up a bit and unshrouded things. It was a noticeable difference over the original 2003 head however. The headwork was done in 2007(ish), and has a bunch of IMI time on it and (1) MRA race weekend at Pueblo.

There is no slipper clutch, but I am used to riding twins so I don't rev the shit out of things. This is the opposite of a YZ450; it falls on its face up high but pulls like mad down low, so short shifting it actually is faster than rev'ing the piss out of it and I never worried about top end time due to that. Of course, YMMV as these things have popped in the past, but mine (and Barts and everyone else I know who doesn;t build the snot out of them) have had no problems.

Oh, and so the dates dont confuse you:

I have not ridden this bike since Clarkie hit the wall. We used to beat the hell out of each other at IMI on the Sumo's, and it wasn't the same afterwards. (for multiple reasons )So, it has not had years worth of wear and tear since the work.

The bike is located right outside IMI (literally, right outside the track) so if anyone wants to try it out I can clean her up and you can give her a go.

My YZ450F SM was fully built (stock bore) with high comp piston, cams, headwork etc and I was always suprised how well your CRF got out of corners when we used to play at IMI 8)

For the record, the bottom end of my 450 is stock. Good shape, but stock.

Like Clarkie says, my bike got off the corners surprisingly well. His made power like a roadracer (and good power at that), but I was always pleasantly surprised by how little work I had to do to mine to make it a fun bike.

We had dyno curves done of both bikes on the same day. I won't say any numbers, but the CRF was down 3 to 4 ponies up top (as I remember? Is that right Aaron?), but didn't have to rev very hard to make a bit more torque down low. All of the bikes (built or not) were relatively close to each other in curves once the jetting was right. Clarkie's was faster at IMI, but that was mostly rider.

Here is a graph I found of your 2004 CRF450 vs my 2006 YZ450F, I ended up getting a few more hp on top above 9,000rpm due to a modified full system Leo Vince exhaust, degreeing the hotcam for top end and some good race gas, but the bottom power never came up. The Honda's always made great horsepower and torque on the bottom end and this shows on the dyno below 8,000 and more importantly at a track like IMI.

    Extra info:

Rear axle is large enough to fit a Strapless Stand bar through. I used an R6 setup on her in the trailer and it never moved an inch from here to Miller and back.

Stock header is Ti (for those of you who didn't know). The aftermarket exhausts are cool, but the stockers flow pretty darn well for where this bike makes its power, so no need to drop a $G down on new exhaust for it.

Also, she is jetted for altitude (for those of you emailing from out of state). It will be lean at sea level if it goes there, although it is safely fat and doesn't run hot.
