well when i did a track day out in pueblo last year with no tire warmers, i lowsided. Ever since, i haven't been on the bike without them. I don't recommend it either. This year is my first as well and i definently think they are a must. Plus, everyone else has them and you'll be going slow for 3 laps waiting for your tires warm up while everyone elses are warm and going fast because of the tire warmers. that's my two cents..
So I can say that my results improved drastically once I got warmers. You can keep from crashing if you don't have them by doing a very solid warm up lap, parking your bike in the sun etc, but for me the confidence of knowing the tires were warm for the first turn really made all the difference.
Do you NEED them? No, but from here on out I WANT them, they do work.
interesting thread...

Clarkie is a everywhere on the forums.
As far as tire warmers go do you have to have them???
This is very subjective to alot of things.
How competitive you want to be.
What size bike you are on.
What brand of tire you will be using. (Pirelli for example are very quick to heat up and on a 70 degree day the Pirelli's can be near operating temp after the warm up lap.
If you can afford them i would get them.
They are confidence building(turn one lap one). The help make the tires useable longer (reduce heat cycles).
I personally use Chicken Hawks because the product is very good and the actually have customer service that will help you.

Do you NEED them for a first time racer? No.
Are they nice to have? Yes.
If you have $800+ to spare (warmers and a generator) then I'd say go ahead and do it. But if money is tight, you can do without. Just make sure you do a strong warm up lap and hold a little bit in reserve that first lap.

Tire warmers are amazing. I did several track days before racing this year and the difference is amazing. with warmers on you can rip into turn one at pueblo first lap with out any worries. in my opinion night and day!
