what kind of video cameras are you guys using

i have been thinking about getting a camera for next year but i am not too tech savvy. i am not real sure what i need or which brands to check out. i have seen the motocomm and go pro. both seem to have the same accessories and both are within in budget(mic, player, etc)

do i need any other "things" to get them to transfer the videos to my pc? or is there anything that the kits do not include?

are there any pros or cons between the two?

i like the motocomm best due to its size, but the go pro has a wide angle lens. does motocomm make a wide angle lens?

are there any other brands i should look at?

i see that they include a small player in the packages, are there any devices i can hook up to the player that has a wider screen so i can check out the videos track side other than a laptop?

My motocomm came with everything needed, including cord to go to a Lap Top, or RCA's to plug it into a TV. The only thing that I had to purchase was an SD card, and batteries.

Ive used MotoComm for the last 2 years. Overall they are a great package. They are small, easy to use, and come will all you need (except SD card (2gb max on DSR-100 and 4gb max on DSR-1003G) Holds tons of vids before filling card and can be used on batteries or hard wired. Though I reccomend batteries, hard wire picks up static pretty easy when wired to the bikes electric system.
Cons: They are pretty sensitive. Lenses get dinged easily (so pick up a spare lens while you are at it, and the biggest down side is they dont work with Windows Vista. Soem super secret Codec I have yet to be able to find. I will say they have a great crew over there and are VERY helful. If you have issues, they make it right.

Ive picked up GoPro Camera's this year to try them out. I know they are a bit larger but as you stated they have wide angle lens avail. And also can be pre-set to take still pics every X seconds. Lastly they are waterproof and I think soem wakeboarding adventures will be in the plan as well.
As far as I can tell so far, they are set up for battery only but Im sure could be hard wired.

I have nto been able to use it yet, but the only Con so far (with out using it) is its larger in size than the MotoComm.

I have/used a big giant Canon GL2 they use in like skate videos and porn and what not. And i used plain old windows movie maker to import and edit it.


I'm assuming ya'll are talking about moto specific hardware? I would try and go with the smallest sony, canon, whatever that you could get at bestbuy. the attachments for the helmet and tank mounts should be the same on the bottom, and you will get a better quality picture and have an easier time uploading it to ANY type of computer, with any software. But im assuming ya'll are looking for the smaller specialized stuff.

Ummm the "new" gopro cam is pretty cool. Its up to 5 megapix from 2. Come standard with the wide angle now as well.

I have them in stock at my shop if you want to check them out or need one.

I personally use the new 20twenty cam. Its pretty good its a self contained bullet cam, so its like the GoPro but a better shape for motorsports I think. retail on that is about $350. It does have some key features I do like over the GoPro.

I will say this is by far one of thebest. But no where near the price of MotoComm and GoPro. But we use this cam for wakeboarding (since its completely waterproof) and it gets amazing stuff. Can also run with remote to avoid needing access. The only negative Ive found on this cam is the price is not in the "cheap" category.
