Are your avatars bigger than 80x80 pixels? If so, I do not believe this board will autosize for you, and that may be the problem...

Well, I deleted mine to replace it with a new one, exactly 80x80, 3.7KB, and it won't come up.

No Mine is 80X40 and no go.... Also is 5.3 kb which was lower than the 6kb it said was the limit. Also it wouldnt let U add it if it was to big.. It simply gives you an error message at the top of the page. Weird..
