    Harley Davidson XR1200R

I have been researching this bike. And was wondering if it would be a competitive bike for the MRA. Its 1200 cc and 86 hp and 80 ft/lbs torque with a race kit for $3500. Which includes brakes lines belly pan computer and dampener and front rim, exhaust, fender, oil cooling system. Any thoughts. so basically a racer for 12500 or less for the bike and 3500+ to make it race ready.

Forget about whether or not it's competitive.... Race a brand or type of bike because it's gets you excited.

If your not in love with it then don't buy.
If the thing gives you a "boner" (as Jim brewer would say) then buy it and worship it in your garage and reap the rewards of it on the track no matter what they are.

Ben is right race it if it trips your trigger, as to your real question it prolly will not be competitive. The thing that scares me it the weight, 570 something wet is way heavy for a racebike. Figure your average 600 weights 380ish ready to race and you can make a SV under 300 pounds.
I does look cool being a retro flat tracker and would be prolly the only harley I would ever consider owning.

Almost anything can be competitive with the right rider, but that bike is 150 lbs more than an SV with roughly the same up, so it will be uphill sledding.

I thought it would be cool if a HD was in the lineup for the MRA. And I am a racer and was wondering and thinking would it be competitive in the classes we already have. I have read a great many things saying it was a great bike and there are many clubs including the AMA racing this bike. And there looks like there is some support for this bike. As many people have said, If I was to get a Harley this would be the bike. And I am thinking the same way.

I'm not sure that'd do it -- might shake all the feeling out of every extremity a guy has!

I raced a couple of Buells and they were on par with the stock SV 650's.
The XB12 is 86ish at the wheel, the weight, geometry along with braking is much more race inspired.
I mean if you want to get yer butt kicked riding Milwaukee iron, thats another option to consider.
