    MRA History

    Hello fellow enthusiasts.

I am doing a speech advocating for the MRA this coming Monday, and am having a hard time finding out how the MRA came about and when. Also, any other interesting factoids would be cool.

If anybody knows, please pass that along, so I sound a little more knowledgeable when I try to get more people out there.

Good luck to all racers this year, and stay as safe as possible. I will see you all at HPR soon!

    Thanks for your help.

    The quick version:

The MRA was founded in 1973 as the MOUNTAIN Roadracing Association by a group of local enthusiasts. Woody Witte is considered the "father" of the MRA.

The MRA is the nations oldest AMA sanctioned roadracing club.

The MRA was reorganized as the MOTORCYCLE Roadracing Association in 1989.

Yes, but they aren't AMA sanctioned...

I'm not sure how much longer the MRA will be either, but right now we are the oldest AMA Sanctioned club in the country.

I edited Glenn's first reply - it was founded in 1973 (Woody reminded me of this at the banquet). The first #1 plate was given "for 1974" which is where our 'records' begin.
