2009 PR Ideas - Let's get it rolling

Starting a new topic here as the "old" PR forum has limited membership. Donna Turner (Rider Rep) will be managing the ideas and empowering you guys and gals to go out and get it done.

Just to be clear, please tell us what YOU can and want to do to help the club - not what you think everyone else should be doing...

I will contact the Goldwing Club in Denver to see if they're interested in 2 for 1 passes.

I will contact Uncle Nasty and Willie B at KBPI to see if I can entice them to say something about our event as the day draws closer. I know them both, but we're not drinking buddies or anything... A remote is probably out, but if they can at least talk it up that may help attendance.

I have already donated half of my compensation for being the VP for the remaining three rounds of the season - and will get nothing for the two cancelled rounds (even though my responsibilites as VP run year-round, I only get paid at each race weekend). That's a tad over $1750, just in case you were thinking of one-upping me.

So, let's hear from you! Whatcha you gonna to ensure MRA Madness runs wild on you??!!??

I would like to raise the awareness of our club races in any way shape or form that i can help in southern Colorado. I can inform dealerships and individuals even if it means time away from my family. I will be willing to help in any way I can Tony/Donna -pencil me in and please use me and my connections in anyway you see fit.-Austin

Thank you for volunteering to be used in a productive way Austin.

I will donate $50 to the MRA to let Drake Dinero make Austin do whatever Drake wants at the riders meeting. 8)

I can get a stunt show put together, if you give me a time frame on a day that works best. Also, what the riders need to do to their bikes IF the show is to be performed on the highest visible spots at any track which may be the track itself.

We'd have to insure a poker run, which would be additional cost, which we can't swing. Better to have them come to the races. If you could coordinate something that "benefitted" the MRA but was not "run" by the MRA that would be different, but there's liability involved if you're the promoter.

Why would the MRA have to insure a poker run if it was just for fun and was organized OUTSIDE of the MRA, but the proceeds went to the MRA?

I kinda like the idea of someone on the CSC putting together a ride, meeting somewhere, and riding out to the track to watch some racing. Anyone ride on the street that is a CSC member that could give this a shot? 8)

I will talk to Grand Prix about possibly putting together a shop ride to the next race. Maybe some of the other shops can do the same.

I mentioned this in the other thread, but a Motorcycle Part Swap Meet. Shouldn't be hard to organize, come one... come all.... if you have motorcycle parts to sell bring it. Slot reservations are $20 (just a rough $$) which gives you a 10'x10' area (give or take) and you can cram as many parts in your little area as you want. I have a dozen parts I can bring to sell!!!

If I understand you correctly....you're saying to have one space, have a couple people work the space, and have a bunch of people donate parts to sell, and all money earned from the parts sold goes to the MRA?

Plus we could hand out programs and such...

Am I seeing this correctly, Preemie?

If so, I like the idea. I know I have parts I could donate, and sure just like you and I, a lot of other people do too.

the main reason i don't do harley poker runs here at my bar is the liability. most runs involve stopping at bars and having adult beverages. i haven't heard of anyone getting sued yet but it is a matter of time til one of the "stops" gets to pay for some drunk weekend warrior who hurts himself .

the csc guys seem to be more responsible. i bet a bunch of those guys could put together a group ride just to come out and spectate. iirc, they did a couple of those last year to pmp

No... if that were the case I would say lets do a silent auction and just auction off a bunch of parts you don't want.

A "Swap Meet" is the same concept as a garage sale... except it's very specific, motorcycle parts. They do this up at Bandimere often, it's a great place to find cheap parts for your bike and hard to find parts sometimes.

I mean, if you want you can bring parts that you want to sell and then give that money to the club... but what I was thinking is you designate a large area for the Swap "Meeters". If you are there to sell, you have to pay $20 (again, just a ballpark) and that gives you a 10'x10' lot to sell your stuff. If you are simply just a buyer, you pay the normal gate fee and with that purchase you get full access to the Pits, Races and the Swap Meet as well as maybe say a Free soft drink.

Where the club makes their money is by those setting up tents to sell their merchandise, as well as the spectators who come to buy the parts. I found a couple of 2 chamber 3" Flowmasters for my Chevelle for $15 at Bandimere, they normally sold for $50ish a piece. I was in high school so I knew that was a score when I found them....well, hopefully there will be guys there selling stuff that they just don't want/need anymore and can give smokin' deals on it.

    That's my idea.

If the MRA "promotes it" then we're compelled to insure it - it's part of our agreement with AMA. If someone ELSE puts it together, then we're off the hook from a liability standpoint.

What is the insurance liability if we were to give the street riders a parade lap for showing up, maybe right before the ROR or something? Could be used as a promotional item

    Preemie!
Let's see how much piss and vinegar you got, youngster!
You want to organize and run a swap meet?
I have some stuff in my garage I'd just donate for sale with the proceeds going to the MRA. Other racers could get family members to run their booth.
A stunt show at lunch sounds great! We're looking into liability and permission issues now. Let you know on that.

    Double A!
You want to organize and run a raffle or maybe a silent auction?
I have a new street helmet to donate.
Don't know about the food thing. There's Mo's at the track and don't know if we should compete.

I just spoke with the owner of the stunt team, he is officially/unofficially penciled in for July 25th once the MRA confirms it. I figure any details can be hammered out tomorrow @ the Walnut Room in between pitchers of beer. The team carries their own insurance, and will do the show for FREE. All that they ask is if we do ANY sort of promotion work their logo is on it.

As for the swap meet, I don't know if I can rally it fast enough by then. That's only 2 weeks, I know a TON of people in the motorcycle world but that may be hard to swing in 2 weeks. Again, more details we can hammer out tomorrow @ the Walnut Room between more pitchers of beer.

How many riders are on the Team? Just curious......

Maybe try to do a Swap meet for the HPR race weekend following this one? 8)
