    Rossi under the brakes

Ok. What is Rossi up to with the leg off the pegs thing under braking? It's bizarre, and I think it's hilarious that other riders (Stoner, Pedrosa, DePuniet et al) are copying him. I seem to remember (from reading stories guys) that knee dragging was considered big and different, and that not all riders followed in Kenny Roberts' style. Perhaps this is the same thing????

My question is, who and how long will it take before we see some racer doing this consistently in the AMA?

2 weeks ago, this little furry creature ( that will be racing with you guys next weekend) went up the inside of me into a corner, pretty damn hot posed like Captain Morgan! I caught myself chuckling a bit, but you may be onto something there, Brad.

BTW, did I mention I never saw him again that race. :?

i forget where i saw it. but it was explained in a interview with him. He says it helps the bike turn as well as increase stability as the rear comes out a bit under hard braking, loading the outside peg while putting all of his weight inside. or something like that.

And Casey was the first to do this btw. : P

    but yes, it looks silly.
I started doing it at PPIR, cuz my left hip was cramping up. would hang my leg off coming into turn three to give it a rest.
But i think these guys are pretty responsible and drink plenty of water unlike me : P

I tried it, but it doesn't seem to help unless you have a superbike tail section with a foam seat. They're more curved and narrower and perhaps they have less friction too, so this allows a rider to slide over to hang off without shifting their weight from the seat to the pegs back to the seat again. That helps stabilize braking because it doesn't upset the suspension with the weight transfer. Stock seats seem to be too flat to allow that movement from just hanging a leg off.

wow, I really hope that was sarcastic! lol, this is great! Ok MRA racers, go be Rossi (and Stoner)!

Oh yeah, I've got a stock seat on the ole Duc, so I prob won't be able to get this new faster technique to work. Darn.

It's the damn silliest thing I ever saw, but if Rossi does it many are sure to follow!

I saw Andrew Wheeler (the Rossi of moto photography) using that technique as he panned with racers going around turns. He said that lifting up his inside leg while panning made him fall over the way he was turning and he is able to then pan faster with the riders. So i will be voting for 'the next thing I do at hpr'

WRONG! Haven't any of you guys ever lifted your leg to fart? Hard braking makes your muscles down there tense, & then you fart!

The TV announcer (who probably knows nothing) said Rossi was asked about it and he reportedly said he didn't know why, it just felt good. Maybe, like T-Bags, race jitters give him gas.

    I'm going to try it

People called Kenny Roberts a fool when he started draggin his knee on the ground. The only sure way to differentiate mere change from actual progress is to try it.

I do too Jon, for the same reason, but just an "on-off" thing. Not actually dragging it on the ground.

I remember Troy Bayliss used to do the leg out thing, but it seemed he only did it going into left corners- He was the first one I remember doing it.

I remember that as well. I recall riders doing this for a couple of years now, and I can only recall them doing it when they are pooshing bedy bedy hard.

I also seem to recall an announcer stating a few of the riders learned this technique in the 250 class??? But who knows?
