Club Announcements

  • Bob thanked the attendees for braving the weather.
  • There is a new General Meeting presentation, developed by Sarah Taylor, the MRA’s new marketing and PR associate. Sarah is also sponsoring a race class this year for the MRA.

Bob Hasenhundl - President

  • Regarding reciprocity for LegionSBK, the 2023 rulebook was printed prior to LegionSBK’s existence. The board is continuing to discuss reciprocity for clubs and any changes that may need to occur.
    • Free reciprocity is available to current license holders in recognized organizations, with proof of having raced within the past three years (1 year for Novices/Amateurs); does not allow you to win a purse or points, and is limited to 3 events per season, after which they must use Paid reciprocity.
    • Paid reciprocity does allow you to win a purse and accumulate points; it is available to current license holders in recognized organizations, with proof of having raced within the past three years (1 year for Novices/Amateurs). Paid reciprocity costs $75 per event and is limited to 4 events (at which point the racer may be upgraded to an MRA competition membership).
    • It was noted that most other clubs have the same clauses regarding reciprocity within their rules. Earlier today, Bob confirmed there were 77 racers that have purchased their license. The board also continues to discuss future changes to reciprocity and the retro activation of points.
    • Paul Frysig noted that he and some others are not able to register with MSR. Bob will reach out to Paul regarding this issue.

  • Regarding the amateur shootout class, in not making major scheduling changes, the amateur GTO is moving from Sunday afternoon to swap with novice GTO. There will be a qualifying session, which will occur between D and C practices on Saturday morning. There will be a break between Amateur GTO and open supersport.
    • Regarding a question on a problem that is trying to be solved, it’s moving amateur GTO to Saturday and making it a payout class. This allows open superbike racers a chance at the purse. The previous payout race, premium amateur, was only open to 750CC and under. There will be a surcharge for the Amateur GTO payout race, likely around $25. Regarding the benefit of the race, in addition to the podium celebration, there will be a payout to the racers. Tim noted it gives non ROR eligible racers a chance to take part in a competitive payout race. The number of laps has yet to be determined.

Blair Harness - Vice President

  • In lieu of Blair, Bob noted that early bird pricing ends on Friday, 3/15.
  • Licenses will be available at Round 1, if possible, they may be available at the General Meeting prior.

Deborah Bingham - Secretary

  • A new check- in process is being implemented for 2024. Check-in will be set up by Tech, so individuals will sign the waiver, get a wristband, track map and race list. If individuals are registered for the wrong race, or need to make changes, this will be able to happen prior to bikes being checked.
  • The spreadsheet containing activities for novice hours is being developed. It will contain events that novices can attend to support the MRA and race weekend activities where they can burn off novice hours.

Noel Ross - Treasurer

  • Regarding the ROR payouts for the 2024 season, for 1-9 racers the payout will be $500, for 10-19 racers there will be $1K, and for 20+ racers there will be $1.5K.

Dustin Pfeiffer - VP of Rules and Tech

  • For the collection of Tech sheets, Dustin confirmed he does not plan to collect these. The responsibility is on the racer to complete the initial tech check prior to having the bike officially checked.
    • Dustin confirmed that racers do need to bring the sheet with them to Tech

  • There will be a process for checking belly pans. They will be checked once per year. Rain plugs do need to be in there and holes need to be filled.

Katie Rayburn - Race Director

  • Regarding the training process for the safety team, new team members will be paired with an experienced crew member. The individual will spend as much time as needed with the trainer prior to being sent to an individual corner. This corner may still be under supervision from the trainer.
    • Anyone interested in being a safety team member should reach out to Katie using the email available on the MRA website.
    • Bob is creating a signup form on MSR for individuals interested in being part of the safety crew.

  • Regarding the inventory of Conex boxes, there was one completed in the Fall; however a Spring clean out has not yet occurred.
    • After the fall clean out, new equipment including brooms, flags and coolers, were purchased.

Dan Spurlock - New Rider Director

  • Race school preparations are ongoing, there are a few items ongoing such as the delivery of rider bibs. The classroom session will be at Fay Myers on the 12th. Dan will reach out to the racers to provide the pertinent information.
    • Dan confirmed that there are 25 people registered for race school. An advertisement campaign prompted a spike in registrations, so a second campaign is planned.

  • There will also be an instructor meeting prior to the classroom session. The date is currently being finalized.
  • Regarding in-pit tech inspection, at check in, racers will be provided a cone and Dan’s phone number. You do not need to be present to have your bike teched, however, your tech sheet must be present.

Santiago Shirtz - Rider Rep - Trophies & Class Sponsors

  • In lieu of Santiago, Bob noted that sponsorship outreach is ongoing. If any member knows of sponsorship opportunities, they were encouraged to reach out.
    • Tiffany asked about what comes in the sponsorship package and when it will be available, Bob confirmed that once this information is available an update will be provided to the sponsors.

Tim Ellis - Rider Rep - PR & Events

  • Bike Nights have started up, there was a presence at all three locations. As the season rolls on, this will be an opportunity for novice hours.
    • While Lakewood had a lower turnout, the Thornton event had a much higher attendance.

  • Tim is putting together a calendar of sponsor events, this will be an opportunity for novice hours to be completed.
    • A member noted that it would also be helpful to keep the website up to date, especially if new racers or potential racers are being directed there.
    • After race school is over, the focus will shift to SuperStreet, and Tim will have some business card sized handouts available for that event.

  • There has been a business card developed for race school. These are being handed out and Tim provided some to the members for them to hand out to potential racers.

Codey Chewning - Rider Rep - Press & Comms

  • Communications via social media continue to be improved with Sarah’s help.
    • Sarah noted that if you are comfortable on camera for an interview, please let Codey know.

  • Mike will be the announcer for the 2024 season.
  • Codey confirmed attendance at Colorado Springs’ CycleGear’s bike night.

Member Questions

  • Jose has put a business plan together to be the Dunlop rep for the MRA. He noted that unless there is a charge to mount and balance the tires, there is no point in taking on the role. In response to a question if racers would be willing to pay to have tires mounted and balanced, Mike noted that he would build that cost into the price of the tires. Jose noted that the tire vendors are competing against each other and it is a difficult business to make a profit in.
    • Bob will talk offline with Jose regarding the opportunity.

  • Tiffany, who owns Motorcycle Rider Training Center, is in need of some new instructors. She asked that any interested individuals reach out to her. Her company is running monthly events for monthly checks and moto intros.
    • Bob noted that it was a rewarding experience being an instructor and while it was intimidating, the rewards were much more prominent.
    • Dustin noted that the scariest thing is some of the students, but it is rewarding and supplements racing.
    • It was confirmed that you do not need to be a racer to participate in the training, there are courses available for all experience levels.

50/50 Contest

  • Kevin Madden won the online contest.
  • Scott Jenkins won the Nite Owl prize
  • Lisa VandeBerg won the $50 MSR credit or completion of novice hours
