Tips for Racing in the Rain

    Hey all!

So pretty new to this whole sport and I wanted to get some input from the more experienced guys regarding tips and important things to know when racing in the rain? I have rode several times in the rain, but never really raced or anything close to that in such weather.

I hear stories of guys still hauling ass, and getting their knee down. To me this just sounds scary, probably because I have never done it before. I'm sure its just like everything else, just takes some practicing to get used to.

Let me know - What do you do in the rain when its race day? How does your riding change? What are some of the things you should definitely be focused on, and others that you certainly shouldn't do?

    Thanks!

Rain riding makes you a better rider because you have to be smooth in all your control and body inputs. First time I raced in the rain about 8 years ago at Miller, I got some good advice from Clarkie. He said be smooth, don't trail brake and race the track not the other competitors.
Don't forget the Rain-x for your helmet's shield.

Fresh rain tires are a must. I would usually soften up my suspension a bit too. It's fun when things work in the rain!

Like Jim said, just be smooth on and off the brakes AND throttle, I used to soften up my compression and slow my rebound damping down. Jim at that race I gave some advise to Sean Fey who had never raced in the rain and he went out and beat me! LOL

Forecast currently doesn't show snow until after midnight Monday morning.
