    Production Cup - Rear shock

Prod rules state we cannot modify the rear shock body. This means the shock cannot be opened/rebuilt... Doesn't this kind of defeat the spirit of a cost-controlled class if you cannot service the shock? Is this a grey area issue that can be worked around? I just want to be able to change the spring and oil for a ninja shock...

No you can service your suspension, modifying would be adding to the metal, subtracting from the metal. Creating a unique one off addition to the shock to body or something, dont look mto into it. If your looking at a way cheat or gain an advantage that is what the rule is for. Not to keep everyone from just keeping up thier bike maintenance.

This is the rule that you are referring too.

Suspension may be modified with different springs, valves and oil. The stock
rear shock body and stock fork tubes must be retained and unmodified. Preload
adjusters may be added to the forks. The stock damping rod must be retained,
but may be modified. Rear ride height may be altered or adjusted, including use
    of aftermarket dog-bones

The intent of the rule, as it applies to your question, is to prevent people from putting on aftermarket shocks (ie Ohlins, Penske, etc...). You are well within the rules to rebuild and spring the stock shock

    Hope that helps...

Did a little more digging. The only reason I ask is that there's no valve on the shock body from the factory to allow you to decompress and open it up for service. Looks like in the 2014 rules (checked the rule change submissions and accepted changes) you're allowed to modify the factory shock body... likely for this exact purpose.

Thanks guys! Super stoked for this season!
