Yeah when I read that Sunday afternoon, it was very depressing. I have been following him for a few years now too. I was just waiting for the day when he could race AMA so I could go cheer him on.

RIP.

Rest in Peace Peter. You crossed the finish line of life with style and doing what you loved.

I was in turn one and saw it happen. He sat up and waved at the other riders but due to a tight corner and no time to stop he was hit head on while sitting on the track. So so sad.... RIP... They didn't say he died until later towards the end of the main gp race.
It was no one fault just bad timing and bad luck..

Prayers out to his family..

RIP Peter you will be missed, we can not let those out there who don't understand what we do use this against you. Your legacy should be remembered as one who did more by the age of 13 than most people do in there whole lives and that you died doing what you loved to do with a loving family who supported you.
I would ask all of you to remember Peter and help continue youth racing by going to http://www.foxnews.com/on-air/americas-newsroom/index.html and voting to let them know that this is no different then any other youth sport and it should be the families decision to race or not.

The interview with Wendy Murphy is even worse. http://www.foxnews.com/on-air/americas-newsroom/index.html#/v/4324448/too-young-to-ride/?playlist_id=86909

The interview with Wendy Murphy is even worse.

Unreal to hear this women. First they tell you you can't let your child ride a motorcycle, then they tell you your child can't say this or that, then they say your child (or you) has to go to their church, say their prayers in public schools, then they want to control every decision you make, control your body, limit your right to think and act freely as citizens of this country. People who take advantage of tragedy to promote their own agenda of limiting the free thinking of others are offensive to everything a free society stands for. Fuck Fox.

Lets not be so quick to go against Fox as most of the time they are against the Liberal socialist crap, also the host is running the counter point. The one in the total wrong is the life is to dangerous for us to make our own decisions so we will tell you what is safe Beaatch.
The mainstream will most likely agree with her until they go after peewee baseball or football but left unchecked these fearmongers will go there, it is just a matter of time unless we stop them. S
So lets stop them and keep the memory of Peter and others like them alive so we can keep living life as we see fit.
OUR choice not theirs.

Let's be fair - if you looked as much like a human troll doll as that chick, you'd be pissing in everyone's Cheerios too. Fox is crap, their programming is crap, their opining and fear mongering to boost ratings is crap.

RIP Peter, and I say celebrate his life with a few fast laps in September just to prove that the choice is still yours to make.

Race for trophies, race for money, race for glory, race for fun - whatever your goal, it all proves people like this idiot wrong. Live your life all the way, no exceptions!

RIP Peter.

I have also been following him on FB and have enjoyed his determination particularly over the last year. He has had a rough ride, and continued to drive towards his goal even though he knew (first hand) how dangerous racing can be.

Fuck Fox. I refuse to even click the link. This is nothing new from them... politics aside.

It certainly is a tragic accident - key word - accident - and frankly - its saddened me more than I would like to admit. But - more kids 13 yrs old will die from drugs, suicide, car accidents etc... it simply is what it is.

I think the online poll they posted shows it all - 2 to 1 in favor of letting kids that age ride... Im sure some there were hoping to prove a point the other way and give lawmakers some firepower - but America is speaking and thats good for everyone's rights.

RIP little Peter Lenz!! Prayers of condolences to your family and friends!!

R.I.P Peter. I find it ironic that after his parents loose their son, she brings up family services. She is right! His parents sure did neglect him...man....in all the pictures they show....he never once had a smile! Poor thing looked like he had been beaten and starved for years!

damn, I had to let it soak in a little after I read this. It is hard to believe he is gone. I followed him on his loopd sit for a couple of years and wrote to him a few times and he was an awesome kid with a lot of talent. This is the first I heard of it, thanks for the post Eric.

As someone who knew Peter and raced with him it is truly hard to take but we understand that he was where he wanted to be and knew the risks associated. His parents understand and the best that we can do is celebrate his life, not his death. God Speed Peter.

Follow the link. This guy has no idea about the sport, but feels like he has some authority to fault the parents. What a jerk! http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/oregonian/john_canzano/index.ssf/2010/08/canzano_death_of_peter_lenz_co.html

John Canzano (Oregon Live) has no right to judge the risk/reward equation in racing.

Kids die. It happens. They'll die racing. They'll die swimming. They'll die being kept safely on the couch...though that'll happen around 50 when lethargy takes its toll. Then a "kid's" dead parents can rest selfishly knowing they didn't let their kids take risks and didn't have to see their child die before them.

As for Wendy Murphy (Fox), it's the same message here. Kids die doing things. Though it is her job to protect kids from irresponsibility, it is not her right to judge where that responsible line is drawn. Women like her would see football programs end, bicycles taken off shelves and swimming pools drained.

She says herself as rebuttal to these suggestions, "Well, that's a judgment call." She's clearly upset she's not consulted on these judgments. Good thing.

Life does not happen in a bubble.
