CCS SW is having the first race of the season on 1/16-17, It's on the east course by far my favorite and I was wondering rather or not anyone's interested in heading down. They've got practice on Saturday racing on Sunday. They are a very friendly and open bunch who have welcomed us many times in the past. So, if interested speak up

Anyone interested? Generally the weathers perfect this time of year, a great getaway as ours if it hadn't already changed by that time, will be and you'll be glad you did. Special rates at given hotels and tons of fun with the crew. Happy Holidays one and all

Jon, little off topic but I was checking out the video posted on their site of the main track at Firebird and I'll admit all the concrete got me a little weirded out, does the east track have a bit more run-off?

Jon

The east track does indeed have much more runoff. Funny that you mention that wall. As one of the CCS's southwests more courageous racers named Rick Bucher actually rubs that wall almost everytime he comes onto that straight. When interviewed on the subject, he states that " yeah I get a bit close but then again rubbing's racing" Then again that's the same wall that ended Fred Merkels career back in about 1995.
Its no worse than Pueblo however and just not a place to try and pass on the outside. It does get a bit slick when it's cold there just like pueblo. Take care

There's a video of the east track with a couple of good views of a lap starting at about 50 seconds into the video at
http://vimeo.com/4272187
and it confirms what Jon's saying about having more runoff than the main track.

Yeah the east tracks fun, probably my favorite but I don't deem main as being to dangerous as like I said, heroics are best left for other sections of the track then coming onto the main straight. Turn ones a blast and so's the wheelie bump between three and four. Several of our riders joined me for a bit of racing in 07' maybe they'll chime in....Guys?

I just leave first thing on the 15th get there that night, practice on the 16th race on the 17th and head back. I generally head out and go through Moab(lunch @Pasta J's) then Monument Valley through Flagstaff and straight on down I-17 then head back on the interstate.

I rode the east track last year before coming out to Denver. It was sketchy IMO. I kept losing the front on 3 of the turns. The pavement is really bumpy from cars braking during really hot weather. Still fun tho. Then again any track riding is fun.

How in your opinion is it compared to Pueblo. I've raced there many times since about 91 and I think it's at least safe to race at. Were you there for CCS?

December 22nd, 2009, 11:04 AM
I have not ridden pueblo so I cannot give you an accurate comparison but the safety at east is way better than the others. The run off is desert so it is not that forgiving but you can ride it out easier.

That is absolutely badass!

John Fisher wanted to do the same thing a bit ago with a 748 chassis and his 1000SS 2 valver. I have never ridden a bike since his air cooled that were so electric in power band and made torque every where...Hell of a lot of fun, and I can't wait to see yours Jon!

I am a Cancer, like short walks on the beach, stiff vodka martinis, and short courtships with fast women. Have her people call my people Jon. :D
