What bike did you learn to ride on? What adventures did it take you on? Do you still have it?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My first bike was a 1975 Yamaha RD350. My buddy rode it home for me. We then went riding on the roads in the farm county around Madison, WI. I crashed in the first 45 minutes. Applied the front brake going around a corner that had gravel. A week later, after I healed, I rode that bike all around rural Wisconsin learning how to accelerate, shift through the gears, corner, and brake. It was one the the best summers ever!

I still have the bike.

My first one was a '76 Yamaha DT100. I bought it from a friend for $300 and rode it for 4 years during college. It was stolen and recovered once, I went through a couple pistons, and put about 18000 miles on it going to school, work, and home (that's a lot of miles on a 100cc 2 stroke). I rode it about every day.

When I graduated, I sold it to a friend of mine for 2 Van Halen tickets and a couple grams of ... uhhh.. some kinda of fungus.

First bike: 196? Arctic Cat mini bike. Briggs and Stratton engine, friction brake for the rear tire, automatic (centrifical) clutch, thus foreshadowing the great pumpkin.
First ride was "Yeah, Dad. I know where the brake is."
Flash foreward 50 feet to the fence I ran into.

If I can remember, here's my list in somewhat order

196? Arctic Cat mini bike.
1968 Yamaha 80.(street "converted" to dirt). Died in a pond. 3 feet of water.
1974 Yamaha MX100 (first shelled piston)
1976 Yamaha YZ125. First shelled case, first grizzly knee damage(look ma, no cartilage!)
1981? Yamaha YZ125. First time pissing off Air Force Base Commander by riding (1985/6)
1974 XR75. Think I still regret sellling that one?
198? XR500. First time breaking ribs at slow speed.
1984 IT490. Open Class Love at First Sight
1987 YZ490. First (and last)Brand New Bike. First AMA race.
1885 CR250. Fun with headshake.
1984 CB1000 Custom. Very effective at pissing off LG commander.
1987 Ninja 750. No where near dragging a knee, but fun to go in a straight line(my issue, not bike)
ATK605e. Wherein I learn not all manufacturer's have a clue as to what they build.
KTM300EXC. Fun, Fun, Fun.
1992 Nighthawk 750. Awsome UJM. l
ZRx1100. Fun with salvage bikes.
2004 KTM520EXC. Just ask Brewer about what color fun is.
1998 GSXR600. First knee down at Miller!!!!!!!!!!
1999 SV650. Dropped 7 seconds off the Gixxer at Pueblo first time out. Love.
Four XR100's including the F-in VP's. Fun at the Elephant ride.
1997 Bandit 1200. World's fastest sofa.
1987 SRX250. So Teri can have fun too.
1992 WR250 Yamaha. Backup for this year to Moab.
Several others I'm sure I missed. What fun they have all been!

The bike I learned on was a 72 Honda CL175. Had a big 29 horsepower and I was about 9 yrs old. My father would sit on the back cause I could not reach the ground when I stopped. Rode it for years, till 1999, a friend of mine traded his 98 GSXR 600 for my car for a day (he had a date). I rode 2 tanks of gas out that day, and went down the following week and put money down on a new 99 R6.... My father still has the 72 Honda and mistakenly sold the R6 to get an R1... the R6 was promptly rear-ended by a teenager and destroyed.. Ugggggg

10 years later I ended up back on that very same model to race Modern Vin. Most fun season Ive had in a long time !!!

well since I am one of the young guns here, some of the bikes you rode were before I was even a thought.

First bike was a 1995 CBR600F3. I rode the piss out of it. I didn't have a jacket, I was using a borrowed 8 year old wrecked helmet, I was wearing BMX gloves. But that bike was the time of my life.

Second bike was a minty 2001 Yamaha R1 Champions Edition. I kick myself everyday for selling it. I never wrecked my F3 but I wrecked the R1 twice.

An old 71 Hodaka Combat Wombat. My dad brought it home in boxes. He and my uncle put it together and I rode the piss out of it. God I wish I had that bike now.... :(

In late 96. I bought a new gsxr750. The new srad. I was on a 3 day Long camping trip ride to Mishawaka. And on Sunday the way back I was noticed mountain view on i25. (cdr). And stopped to see that bikes were racing. I stood at the bottom of the dragon slide and watched this amazingly loud yfz750 ride by several times(doug Vickery). And 3 months later I was racing with the Mra. Never rode on the street again. Well just a few times here and there but that was it.

Nice shot with Camelback in the background.

My 1st bike was a pile o junk 95' YZF600R complete with salvaged title, after market no name bodywork and a dent in the tank. Bought it 02' for $2000. Sold it in 03' for $2000 and bought a 98' CBR900RR with the black & red tiger stripe paint scheme. Sold it to pay for my last year of college. After I graduated I bought a spotless blue & white 01' R6. Sold that and bought a fully prepped 01' GSXR600 racebike which turned out to be a disaster.
http://i546.photobucket.com/albums/hh401/GSXRScott/GSXR.jpg

Now I've got an 03' R6 race bike fully prepped and it is, to say the least, wonderfull. I was in love after about the 3rd trackday lap.

First street bike i ever rode/owned was my current bike.
06 GSXR 750.
6 months after i got the bike i started doing corner work for the MRA.
About a year later i started racing and really dont do a whole lot of riding on the street anymore.
