I laid my 749 down this weekend and have already begun the repairs for the last round. In typical fashion the water pump wore through the fairing, I have a new pump housing on order but does the hole need to be completely patched or can it just be duct taped? There aren't any sharp edges or anything, will this pass tech?

Duct tape will be fine. Lower only has to retain 3quarts of liquid otherwise it does not matter what it looks like cosmetically.

Dude! Have you seen the tech guys Ducati... Mr Duc tape himself!! ITS UGLY!!

But just like Mike said, as long as there are no sharp edges and your lowers will hold oil then you should be fine.

Me TOO!! That WON'T pass tech! I was going to be on the "look out" the last race. I think this is Matt Dunn #65.

So I am assuming that the pipe in this case would eventually burn/melt through the plastics. Other then header tape what could you do to avoid that happening (other then cutting the lower)?

3 gallons? what rule book are you reading

The purpose of the oil/water retaining belly belly pan is to ummm retain water and or oil. If you have 3 gallons of either in your bike you are doing it wrong

. If you have 3 gallons of either in your bike you are doing it wrong

Not if you race a Ducati.

(You have to keep spares of both on board! )

Attention fairing police officers and junior fairing cops; Marty is correct there is a dam in front of that hole, and it will hold three quarts. Now, go mow the lawn or something.
