View Full Version : Do newbie bikes often fail tech?

If so would it be possible to get a "pre-tech" by MRA well before the first race? I don't want to find out I've got a significant tech problem on the morning of my first race.

Maybe something at the race school or at a Chicane day or something?

Thanks

Mark,

I'll go easy on the new guys the first race weekend. As long as you have case covers, oil fill, drain, brakes and pinch bolts safety wired I will let you slide if you miss something. However, if you still want me to go over it before the race weekend you are more then welcome to bring your bike to me to look it over.

Thanks,
Ray-Ray

Thanks, Ray Ray.. I'll probably take you up on that offer once I get the bike ready.

If you will be attending the race school, feel free to hit me up, and we can go over your bike in detail. 8)

make sure your exhaust is wired...

Are you referring to the rear mounts (aka WERA)?

No, he's talking about the springs.
Sport rider has a good article on safety wiring at http://www.sportrider.com/tech/146_0002_hand/index.html although I think they wire the springs wrong. They main purpose is to keep the spring from flying away should it break. In this article, they wire in parallel to the spring, not through it.

Jim, thanks for the reply. That's a popular article. I used it initially. I did notice how they wired the exhaust springs, didn't need it, so I didn't do it. Before I come north I'll have mine done as you suggest.

I don't know much about safety wiring a race bike but to me this looks more like artwork than anything else. Thanks to the guys at BMS. It's going to be embarrasing when time comes I have to try and replace this.

We will have to see if the bike makes it through the first school.... Then we can tear it down and check out that polished/balanced crank.

True true. 07 r1's and new rider schools don't mix well.
