ok boys and girls, since i cant find any battlax takeoffs....i guess i'll have to settle for something less...i'm lookin for some good michelin race takeoffs. preferably in the springs, since i want to get them mounted before sat 22nd.... 120/17 180/17.....what you got?

yep 1st race school,but plenty of track and canyon time.....tried mich once, felt loose to me compared to battlax's.....but i'm a ubernoob so what do i know...........i just really feel comfortable on battlax's......

Well, you shouldn't have any trouble finding a good tire for your needs when you (very soon) decide you want some fresh rubber. :)

And, if you want the tried and true Dunlops, look for Ben Fox MRA #95. The new Ntec slick is a tire that can win any race in the MRA, but I am sure Ben also has tires available for most everyone's budget. I think his name is "benfoxmra95" in this board.

One last thing: I am sure all of the guys above would agree with me when I say KNOW & CHECK YOUR TIRE PRESSURES! That is one of the most important variables for all tires.

thanks for all the info guy's...i'm gonna try a set of mich and a set of pirellis this weekend and see what i think...i've ridden metzler, mich and battlax, and feel most confident on battlax's...just like you feel most confident on your tire of choice. isn't that why you use what you use?

how much are a set of bt-002's type 3 120/70/17 & 180/55/17 at faster?
cause i can get a new set from tfog for 249.00 shipped to my door...

Agree 100%. Always be sure to check with your vendor about the proper pressures. I was so surprised when I moved to the Michelins how little pressure they require and I went out thinking I could use 31 lbs. psi in the front and about $hit my pants. Our club is well represented by all the tire brands and you will find that there are super fast guys riding all four different tires. I have ridden Pirellis and Dunlops previously and found that the Michelins work for me. Plus, the support that Mark and Tammy provide to the mafia is key. At any rate, this year is gonna be fun! Oh, another small thing to keep in mind:

You might be able to find tires cheaper online or through various other sources, but the guys that are slaving at the track deserve our business if the price is even close. Also keep in mind that you will pay for mounting and balancing most times unless you bring outside tires, so it may turn out to be the same price in the end anyways.

( This is not a slam on Jim @ TFOG btw - he is great and has supported the MRA for years! )

remember we gotta be comparing apples to apples here. your opinion of michelins wont be accurate if its based on the 2CT street tires. Trust me, race tires are the only way to go on the track, no question about it. Just dont throw a manufacturers name in the dirt if you haven't tried the correct product for your application.

Good point.

If you are trying a set of Pirellis, make sure they are the "Supercorsa Pro" or the "Diablo Supercorsa".

Those are available in various compounds etc etc, but those two models are the real race tires.

Bridgie's are the BT01 and the BT02s I believe, although I thought they might have a new tire coming out here (or already did?).

Listen to everyone else regarding Michelins and Dunlops. :)

i'm taking it all in and trying all of them...applehans is gonna let me try a set of his pirellis and i'm getting a set of mich pr5's tonight....and i'm not downing any tire, just looking for what best suits me and my riding style. i run 28 lbs rear and 30lbs front on stones, what do you run with mich pr5's?

It was a joke. Supersport races do not allow slicks, only DOT race tires. So you could finish first in a supersport race on the Ntec Slicks, but you wouldn't win because you would be disqualified.

Nov and Am classes are Superbike rules, so DOTs or slicks are fine.

Be sure you're making the necessary suspension and ride-height adjustments as you move from one tire to the next as well.

I've done equally poorly on Bridgies, Dunlop and Michelins in the past decade - and even less well on Metzelers (pre-pirelli) and Yokohama's in previous decades! From all my research, I can tell you that NOBODY produces a tire that can make me fast.... turns out the problem is me, not the tires.

But there are subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) differences in the height of the tires and so if you take a Dunlop rear off and put a Michelin rear on - your bike will steer like sh!t because the michelin is a much shorter tire (at least in my tire size) and it will change the geometry of your bike enough that you WILL notice the difference in how it handles.

Same concern for the fronts. MY michelin front is taller than the bridgie front. Same issue with changing the geometry and handling characteristics, so I'll need to compensate for that. Taller enough that I need to extend the ride height to keep the tire out of my belly-pan and radiator under braking. Can you dig what I'm saying here?

Before you decide that a tire sucks, better make sure it's not actually your setup that sucks. You might be surprised what you find...
