View Full Version : ***NOTICE TO NOVICE RIDERS***

Two things-

One-
We really need corner workers for the race schools. If you have novice hours that need to be worked off, why not take care of them early at the school? This will not only relieve the burden of finding the time to work them off during a busy race weekend, but it will also help support your future competition. In fact, bring the whole family and crew and make a fun day of it! We could certainly use you.

Two-
In the past, there have been many complaints about finding the time to work off the required four hours of volunteer time supporting the various logistical aspects of running the MRA. To make it easier, last season, the board tried to ease that burden by allowing a rider so be sponsored by a member of their crew, family, or friends. This worked well in some cases, but on too many occasions, we would get a volunteer that would come out and work for an hour and bail. This defeats the purpose of being much help. To that end, I am going to require that any time worked be in a minimum of two hours. I ask that they be worked in full but I do understand that the race weekend can be crazy for some making a four hour block difficult. The minimum time requirements may also be amended by whomever you work hours for, for instance if you decide to help at score keeping and they decide they only need an hour of help then that will be acceptable.

Thanks for reading and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.

I will be there on the at the first MRA school...what time did we need to be there if we were planning on attending?

Schools are generally laid back. We usually have a corner worker class while the riders are in their class (although the last two years the first school has been snowed on)

As far as time, I'd like the corner staff to be ready by 8am so we can go over flagging, radio etiquette, and so on... We usually don't have to staff the track until after lunch because the riders only use the front strait and the area between T9 and T10 to run drills. After lunch they will use the whole track. This is all subject to change depending on the Rider reps and what they need.

If you plan on working the whole day your looking at 8am to 4pm-ish. If you only plan on covering your 4 hours, then I'd say show up around 11 so we can go over flags and stuff before the track goes hot. We'll need the most staff for the second half of the day. Thanks for asking! 8)

Nope, sorry. I'm sure that question was in jest but the track will be for the school only.

I'm working on coming down to get my hrs. in. Sat. March 22nd right? I have some schedule juggling I have to work out. However, If I can make it I'll PM ya, and I can bring one, maybe 2 EMT intermediate buddies to work as well. We may be a bit late though, we both will work nights the night before and have a 3+ hr drive. I'll let you know.

Kip-

For now, count me in for Mar 22. I worked T-1 for Spiderman Bob's Day as my first day and am looking forward to doing races. When will the corner workers school happen for the season? Did I understand you that it will be March 22 in the morning?

I'll let you know if anything changes but I should be there by 8am for all day.

Thanks.
Tom

Show time is at 7:00AM for me, but as far as the rest of the crew, I expect everyone to be there by 8 - 8:30 at the latest. The days schedule would be hard to detail very well but here is a "general" idea:

8-11'ish we cover corner working procedure, like the proper way to wave a flag (as silly as that sounds to some the flagging technique makes a difference when the rider whizzes be at 100+) We'll also go over radio etiquette, when to and what flag to use, how to pick up a bike to prevent injury, what to wear, stretching (believe me, stretching is needed when you stand track-side for 8-9 hours) there are other things to go over but you get the idea.

11-12 lunch

12-4'ish the students will make full use of the track at this point and the corner staff will be able to use the skills covered during the am instruction.

The general idea here is this is a school weekend and not just for the racers. As I mentioned above, the schedule is subject to change based on the rider reps and their needs. After all, the corner workers are there to serve the racers, so we'll do what they need.

+1!!!!!!!

but really i understand having the track just for the school. I took my class last year during a friday MRA practice session and it was a tad bit intimidating

what are the dates for the other race schools? yes i could look it up but im lazy.

I'm glad I made this posting, we'll have more workers than students it sounds like! If you could all spread the word about corner working to your friends we could have a full crew this year. Plus they get front row seats to the action and we get the new track too! This is shaping up to be a killer season! THANKS FOR ALL THE SUPPORT GUYS, AND GALS! \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/
