Is anyone interested in a little early 08' racing? I'm thinking about heading down to get dialed in and was wondering if anyone's interested? Should be a good time to drag the old elbows and knees and Phoenix's weather can be quite agreable this time of year though I must add getting there and back can be a bit of a challange!

Jon,
when would we be heading out and returning? Also, how do some of the entry fees compare? Glenn #62

Heading out Friday the 11th (weather permitting) and back Sunday night (weather permitting) In December of 95' I managed to flip my truck and trailer over three times on the way back home from a race at Firebird, 2 AM icy I-25 outside of Santa Fe going the speed limit. Like I once said sometimes the ride to and from the track more dangerous than the track. As far as fees since we don't yet know how much our fees are going to climb this year yet it's hard to compare but the first race is $90 the second $70 and $50 after that. A one day license is $40 unless you've got a CCS license. There's a practice day Sat for $100 I think and it's a fun club at least it was back then. Goto www.RoadraceSW.com to get the scoop.

Anyone swinging through Albuquerque with room for a bike and me.... I'd go. Otherwise I have to work out logistics for transportation.

Still thinking about it though.

Yeah it was just there that all went wrong the last time I went racing at Firebird!, Seriously Gotta wanta race if your going to brave this climate to go racing. This years weather's not looking to different from last year. I can see it now being stuck in AZ til March because of the weather. I'm dying to ride and race and I guess that's what you gotta do.

Any body have a raceday schedule for the race. I am curious how the run it. I looked all over the website but can't find it.

Jon
December 31st, 2007, 08:28 AM
They pretty much follow the same format as other CCS clubs. with Supersport classes first, then Superbike, then GP. It allows you to change your bike to Superbike trim after lunch and leave it that way. They'll be posting the schedule soon.

dragos13
December 31st, 2007, 09:34 AM
this looks pretty good to me. Jon, I imagine they run amatuer and novice classes as well? what about endurance and maybe saturday practice?

Jon
December 31st, 2007, 09:51 AM
Yes they do indeed have Saturday practice, all day. Then Sunday they have the 25 minute GTL,GTU AND GTO races both NV and EX. Some of the classes are combined some are not. Goto www.RoadraceSW.com and they have much imfo though the raceday schedules not posted yet.Not sure yet if anyone besides myself are going but it sounds like some would like to.
Have a Happy New Year!

Jon

I doubt we'll get as much actual track time but at least we'll know you'll know somebody. You guys be careful driving down there as they'll probably at least two or more storms before we leave.

I'd like to go, but making that drive alone and footing the whole gas bill is a bit too much for me right now. If anyone has some extra room in their trailer or would like to double up in my truck/trailer send me a PM.

hey jon, what bike are you bringing down? what classes will you be running?

Jon
January 3rd, 2008, 06:09 PM
The 1098 for sure and racing Supertwins, Unlimited GP and Unlimited Superbike. Three races one before lunch Two after. I'd like to bring the HyperMotard just to put some miles one it. BTW the raceday schedules posted for the event if you'd like to peruse it. Sounds like a damn long night with little sleep for those of us who are driving and a loooong trip if and when it snows. :?

dragos13
January 4th, 2008, 09:30 AM
We are in Jon. I sent my pre-entry over yesterday. I will be running a class before lunch and two after also. Middleweight supersport, superbike, and trophy class. Also running the trackday on saturday. Sounds like a good time. See you down there!

Jon
January 5th, 2008, 05:08 PM
You boys be careful riding in the trailer, don't let the gas fumes get to you and cover your heads well if Justin says hang on! I should be good if I don't watch movies prior to major changes of direction. I'm going to be stopping south of Moab to say hey to a friends friend but will probably get there seven or so hours prior.
See you there and safe travels,

turbohoje
January 5th, 2008, 06:23 PM
Woot, i'm already psyched.

there is lots of space for rent in the trailer.

space in the truck is a different story. there are 4 of us driving in a crew f350.

vonconcepts... if your work stuff falls through we could come your way. i was planning the moab route. its better from what glefke says. but if there is weather raton is prbly more timid than i70.

Jon
January 5th, 2008, 07:22 PM
Justin,
Look at it this way, with the weather and the lack of any ones ability to correctly judge it (Regardless of how much there paid to try) we're damned either frigging way. Please don't use my judgment. Hell, I'm the one who went Pahrump to Denver via almost Salt Lake! but then again I manage to get myself to Daytona every year for like ever.
I will say that the drive's alot nicer going through Moab but I'm not pulling a house, it will be mostly still daylight and lastly I speak Navajo, yeah right. Through Moab and Monument Valley about as lonely as it gets. But probably won't have to deal with the drunken NM drivers. I'm weather depending going to go Moab way down Raton way back we'll see. Either way I'm keeping an eye on miledge. From past experiences I remember 860 miles to Phoenix via Moab 964 miles

turbohoje
January 5th, 2008, 09:02 PM
i was playing with google maps for a little bit (how you can drag the route around).

then i found the weather channel overlay and gas buddy. i populated roughly where the 3 fuel stops would be by zip (roughly) but havent found the cheapest route there. getting diesel price is a manual process of clicking on each site.

i'll prbly make the call that day at 2 after giving you a call and peeking at the map anyway.

haha "saltlakecity?!!" weve had a good laugh at your expense for that one.

i vaguely remember NM being full of drunk drivers and cops beating them down. i hate cops like i hate speeding tickets. i suppose its a new year, perhaps the traffic gods have awarded me a point or two back.

three crashes sunday morning. all on the same right hander. right now its a possibility there were troubles with the tires but i'll need confirmation before placing any sort of blame.

he is going to a specialist today. from the first set of xrays, it appears to be fractured and he's pretty sure there are some torn ligaments. not looking good for him. he was running some damn fast times on saturday too.

thats the one. turn 4. i saw several guys loose the front coming through there. he just had a problem with the rear loosing traction.

man the wheelie bump is pretty fun. its just hard to get used to the front end coming up like it does at 1000ft elevation.

We're hoping East will be in better shape. Unfortunately, we got to race on freshly sealed turns 1, 2 and 3. That sucked.

A lot of people crash in turn 4, even the locals :D there are acouple of nasty bumps in there and if you get off line you cant get on the gas as hard as you can when you hit the sweet line

glad you guys were all treated well, seems like everyone enjoyed you guys going down there to race. It's good to see a club welcome 'outsiders' to their race events

lol gotta say that was new to me. It was amazing that everyone, even the #1 plate holder, was willing to come by and see how we were doing, offer tips and suggestions, etc. maybe our club should try a similar type of greeting for outsider.

January 15th, 2008, 05:32 PM
Well folks we're organizing anothertrip though this time someone else is doing the driving...no more all nighters for me, Thank You. The club is first rate with Great announcers Great organization and some really neat features like the Start practice session that was invaluable for me to make sure my clutch had been bled correctly as I am unversed in the procedure.
Regardless, it worked, we all did rather well and I'll just bet the next time the competitions going to be a bit tougher but as all I met were as friendly as any, I look forward to our return. They're a really fun bunch and really did appreciate our visit. I don't know how many e-mails I've gotten, but they all invite us back and say bring your friends. So consider this folks an open invitation to try a new track, a new organization and mark you calenders Feb 16th-17th, I promise you'll have a blast.

how was the drive?

Jon
January 15th, 2008, 10:08 PM
The drive down was great, we took our time and made it in like 13.5 hours a no brainer. The drive home due to Charles 9:00 AM law class I wouldn't want to duplicate but as anyone who likes to race knows it just what sometimes has to happen. For the next event we're going to tag team and some will fly some will drive, a much better solution. Ever read about what Chris Ulrich has put up with? Racing is often hard work even when your on a factory team getting stuck in international airports flying from the USA to say Japan or Australia especially. Hell, Daytona, Mid Ohio and Chandler AZ are a breeze by comparison.

Ara I still can't believe you crashed twice there and didn't hit a wall. Considering the proximity of the walls, the odd bumps, and the newly laid sealer strips I'm amazed they don't have more serious injuries, but where else can we race in January. At least everyone at the CCS was very friendly and helpful especialy their #1 Ray Tibadeau who showed me a few tips/lines on Saturday. Jon I certainly owe you a big one for doing 80% of the driving and given me a lift. Thanks again.

You can get some pretty cool shots from the stands above the track.

No problem I've been referred to as being the driving man by friends and my wife in my earlier years but in more recent ones I've been cutting back. I'm surprised I can still do as much as I can! As long as you got to class and you keep focused on what's really important you'll go far. Could you give me a PM or see about getting those shots of the girls? Love to have them as they were certainly an asset to the trip and made for a fun time. Always fun to introduce new fans to our craziness in hopes of making them return.
Ari, hope it's not to bad and we see your return to grid soon. To all else don't miss your chance to go for a little early season action, it can only help make you ready for the 08' season. Like I said the clubs a blast, lots of fun, friends and a very professionally run raceday.

Camping is allowed and that's what many do. The kicker is that since they don't have security they require you to be back at the track by 8:00 PM for lockdown. I'd suggest giving them a call or even going on to the website @www.roadracesw.com Many of not all your questions can be answered and if not they were quick to get back to me.

For sure, if you guys are coming just let me know and I will make sure to put something together.

I want to thank you guys for coming down and racing with us. We didn't even know that the track was going to be in the condition that it was until we got out there ourselves.

Our next race is on our East track. A lot of people out here like this track the best. It is easy to learn and there are NO walls on it  . I know a lot of you didn't like the walls that are on Main so I thought I would throw that in there.

Let me know when you totally commit to coming and I will see what I can do as far as rooms that are close to the track. I can get a pretty good deal on them sometimes.

If you guys can stay at the track, all the better. We usually hang out half the night and have a pretty good time just kicking back. The weather is pretty nice so you don't need anything extravagant to stay. If you get in early enough we have Friday trailer drop off so you don't have to scramble in the morning. The times for that are posted usually a few days before the race weekend and are usually around 6:00-8:00.

Look forward to having you guys back \:D/

i suppose the walls were not a big deal, or at least until a bike slides into one.

i can only speak for myself, but i would be sleeping in chateaus trailer again. i'm not sure how the rest of my group will get down. i know we wouldnt make the friday drop as i dont like to burn the extra day off work.

i'll confirm with clarkie that they dont. dale had to change his. you can get some of that white vynal stuff from the hardware store as a temporary number plate backing. all my numbers were constructed from electrical tape, as usual, as were glefke's. so they wont be surprised to find out your from colorado

Nah Justin,
Blake and I will just rent a car to get to and from the track. As I've still got Priority club points we'll just get the free room and besides that we just need to load up. I assume load Thursday afternoon and you'll leave Friday AM early. Would love to have the bike there Saturday for practice as I've never run the east track but it sounds pretty easy. We'll talk prior and get things hashed out. It's funny that we spoke about doing this in Pahrump and now are doing it and saving us all money in the process which makes fun affordable for all. ... yeah you know me!

i have 5 strapless stands in the trailer. every one of them is accounted for, however i have two wheel chocks that i can mount. there is always the back of the truck too.

are the two bikes yours or two separate people?

i figured each person pays an equal share of the gas. last time split 6 ways it was $130 a person round trip.

i'm going to sleep at the track in my trailer. i'm not sure what everyones plans are as far as that goes but i assume there will be 4 of us doing that. although there is room, i dont want the trailer to turn into a hostel where nobody has any space and or can sleep comfortably.

(no showers at the track btw)

long post, short. i have space for bikes most defiantly. if the need arises, i can take 4 more without buying more wheel cocks.
