Mike Applehans
On Behalf of Ian Thomas
Ian says we never should have started that ROR Race
Danny, Bob, Rick & several other staff were out there in trun10 the sprinkles were a very light
Mike- Turn 7 was drizzling the entire time
Shannon’s Perspective racing is dangerous & you have a choice of running in the race or even to pull off early. I give Danny a thumbs up, for wanting to get the premiere class done.
This is a learning opportunity, we lived we learned.
What’s to stop us from moving the day around, there’s not a good opportunity
We did try to get the day started early, now we know there can be 0 moisture In turn 10 lesson learned
There was pressure from both sides, those saying run it & those saying don’t…. it’s a tough decision to make when you are feeling that kind of pressure from people.
We had a waiving Yellow we were doing that to be cautious
Mike- Danny Did you feel it was safe?
Danny appreciates the feedback
No one wanted to be that guy that called it to soon or to late
In retro spec we should have called it 1 lap sooner
Jim Wilson was out in the race agrees should have been called sooner
Brad would like to have rules for most every possible scenario- the reason we have the rules we do is it has all been of lessons learned. We can’t foresee how things will turn out so that’s not really a possibility.
Can we address every situation?? Can we learn from it yes can we change it no.
Glenn- you can’t put something into writing trying to predetermine every situation you have to go through the experience.
We don’t want to turn this into a witch hunt but it’s danny’s first season he does have to learn his own way of doing things. With 11 people on the board you have 10 other opinions besides your own it can make things difficult but the Board feels Danny is doing a great job & we will continue to support him & decisions he makes.
We help guide him, give constructive feedback
Cindy-there were a lot of people in turn 10 checking the surface they had their hands out
Pueblo it’s so unique because every turn except turn 10 is fine to ride on but turn 10 is slick with moisture. Again we now know if it so much as spits in 10 we need to call the race until it has passed.
Someone is always going to be mad at the decision make we aren’t downplaying or dismissing you
We told you it was being monitored & it was
Positive feedback for our new track marshal
When you have humans making a judgment call it’s never going to be perfect.
Keep in mind the board keeps the discussions going after the race weekends. There’s a side on the forums that you members can’t see & we continue to discuss what we did right & what we can improve on for the future. We are aware & we will keep it in mind if something like this comes up again.
Honestly, would we be having this conversation if Nyles didn’t fall down in 10? Mike & Brad Yes we would
Is there a rule being added to the rulebook?? No we are not adding a rule but we are clarifying a rule.
Brad- Submitted a request a few years back for the same to be clarified was told no at that time
Shannon- It was discussed at the rule change meeting but people did not support it at that time.
The rulebook has been 45 years in the making the board at the time
That rule came from AMA we do look at the other rules of other clubs
The board has transitioned over the years & now there’s more people that agree the rule needs to be clarified. Not everyone on the board agrees with it but it was the majority.
We cant make everyone happy
Feel like you’re trying to get us to admit fault for something but there’s not fault to be pointed more lessons learned, we do our best to take your concerns seriously
We can’t address everyone’s concerns
The board transitioned & now the board is unified about the ruke clarification.
The rules are a collection of situations that has been a lesson learned.
Will the rulebook be amended to clarified rule? We will have them available at Round 3
If you take the checker flag your race is over.
Having something like this happen we value all of your opinions
Brad has sent a request for meeting minutes…
Jen-Please give me a chance to respond to you. Your email was just sent a few hours ago & I came straight from work I haven’t had time to even respond yet.
Brad-How does a member attend a meeting, Glenn- you would need to notify the Board of directors 1week in advance. If you attend you can’t speak if you speak out of turn you can be removed from the meeting.
