The rule book says that:

E. Case guards (must be) installed on ALL applicable models with vulnerable wet cases. Wet cases will emit fluids if cracked or worn away.

Is there a list somewhere of which makes and models have "vulnerable wet cases?" I've searched but haven't come up with anything. Apologies if this has been covered.

Specifically I am inquiring about a 2002 SV650S, but was thinking an all-inclusive list could be helpful?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the general rule is any case cover that extends beyond the profile of the frame needs to be upgraded.

The all inclusive list is hard to manage since models change all the time. As a result the rule is written the way it is so that a model can't be missed.

Good news: your SV does not require case guards

I thought 1st gen SVs needed the right case cover and 2nd gen does not as there are none made?

Woodcraft makes them for first generation SV650 1999-2002

Second gen starts at 2003.

I just received and installed mine yesterday. The stocker was plastic.

Anyone on the forum have a spare for shRED?

The install was pretty quick. Here is a video from Sportbiketrackgear on the install.

Is anyone sure whether they are or aren't required? Obviously its getting late for this weekend if they are....

If they make one, get it and install it. It's not worth oiling the track down.

They are not required for the SV, because they are not considerd vulnerable class. They do not make case covers for second gen motors.

If you have first gen cases it is recommended you get em. If you have second gen cases you can swap some first gen parts in order to install case covers.

as well all know.......shit does happen, so take Carl's advice.

Yep got it. Thanks for the good advice. I wasn't trying to figure whether to get them at all, but whether I could pass tech for the first weekend without them. Situation has resolved itself, other mechanical failures make weekend 1 a no go. Going to shoot for wknd 2. Thanks for the clarification.
