Anyone using a Leatt STX neck brace?

I've been thinking about trying out the Leatt STX neck brace and was curious if anyone has already tried it. Does anyone have any feedback on it ? Or any other neck brace system that would work for roadrace and leathers with a speedhump?

I haven't tried that brace, but I'm guessing it would NOT be an option due to limited movement. Our style is much different than Moto-X as you know, so these braces don't seem to work when hunched over.

I tried this one for a season and even crashed wearing it at Pueblo (turn 1 - ~75mph or however fast turn 1 is). I liked it and still wear it when I ride SUMO, but it won't allow for a full tuck down the straight and changes body position in fast turns when slightly tucked, so I no longer wear it on the road race bike. http://evs-sports.com/store/product.php?productid=17770&cat=282&page=1

Then again, I broke my wrist and separated my shoulder (AC joint) during that crash, so not sure what it did. Maybe saved neck over-extension?

Another thing I've read is that while the Leatt braces can be a life saver, they tend to cause more collarbone injuries. I know, I know, I'd rather have a broken collarbone than neck as well.

Assuming you don't want to spend $2.5k+ on a fully inflatable suit, I would talk to Jim about the vest that he wears that inflates. He said he has 'tested' that one 4 or 5 times and it has held up like a charm. If I'm not mistaken, he took an end-over-end tumble @ Miller around 100mph and walked away, which is easier said than done as we get older. You can re-inflate the vests at a nominal fee, but most of the time a replacement vest is in order from what I understand.

On a side note, I would also recommend a mouth guard. Not sure why I seem to be the only one in the paddock wearing one of these. They reduce concussion occurrence, reduce dental repair cost and provide more concentration (IMO) when riding. Here is the one I wear... https://www.shockdoctor.com/double-nano-mouthguard

Ask Martin Jarusek about teeth damage. I wore the shock doctor for years playing ice Hockey, they fit amazing. I may start wearing one myself, because every now and then I will bite my cheek a little from the helmet padding pushing my cheeks in. :idea:

I've been using the STX (Street/Roadrace Version) all this season (racing SMRI). The street version (STX) is made to go around the speed hump of your leathers. When wearing it, I forget it's on. Doesn't impede looking through the turns, etc. Doesn't "ride up" on you. About the only time I notice it, is if I do a shoulder check and then I have to just tilt my head slightly different.

Best deal going is to get on Hookit.com and request a sponsorship after you put all your resume crap in... Pretty sure they've been handing out 40% off retail... so instead of $400, puts it at $240. I started wearing one down at Sandia and now we have a couple others out there wearing them.

I plan to try and make it up to HPR next year, if I do - just look me up and I'll let you (or anyone) try it out for a session.

My neighbor has been trying to get me to get the (STX) street version all year. I would really like to take one out and test it for a day. From what I have heard thropugh forum and reviews they do not impeded vision, movement at all, as well as tuck. I am planning on having one next year... if it fits correctly.

I think the only person I'm aware of in the club who has his lights out more than I is Applehauns. I know this will not help/or prevent it but you only get one neck...don't break it!
